Abbie, Allie and Missy.

/>These three cute dogs and their favorite humans visited the studio this past week.

Abbie, Allie and Missy are easily among the happiest little creatures around.

These portraits were created as part of a wonderful gift .... Happy Father's Day!

It's a bird. It's a moose. It's a sleeping dog?

Layla seems more interested in dreams of tennis balls rather than watching for wildlife this morning.  She had a busy day yesterday.  What a diva.

Recognition Page names for $100+ pledges - needed ASAP.

The It's Important to Paws Kickstarter campaign is almost complete.  We need Recognition names if you pledged $100 or more.

You can provide the names of up to four of your animal companions, family members, friends or even a business.

The best way to send this information is to email me:  david@alaskaportraits.com

Another option:    call me or my staff at (907) 868-1680.

I'm requesting that you submit the names as soon as possible.  The book will go to my publisher next week so we can move forward through the proofing and printing process.  The goal is to have the book printed and delivered to my studio by the end of August or first week of September.

I don't want to miss any names - but may have to if they are not received soon.

Thank you!  We all did this together.

Mud

Kelsey, studio manager for the past several years, accepted the challenge of photographing Layla and me in deep mud today.

The photograph was captured in an area above McHugh Creek on the outskirts of the Anchorage-bowl area. Our town is still thawing out after a late start to spring and summer. Gnarly trails are easy to find. Though, this one required a bit of a climb.

Shown here is a highly-cropped version of an image that will appear on the final page of It's Important to Paws. Layla is chest-deep and mired in mud. You'll have to wait to see the entire photograph of us together. It's a spectacle and a perfect final photograph for the book.

Thankfully, we were able to wade in the rapid water of McHugh Creek as a handy rinse cycle.

When we returned to the parking lot, another family had just opened the door of their SUV.  Layla misunderstood that as an invitation and promptly jumped into their car with her wet paws.  Embarrassed, I tried to get her to jump back out.  She balked.  It seems she may have resented the mud bath just a bit.

I think she's getting a big head - being a cover girl and all.

Thank you....

As of 8 p.m. this evening, It's Important to Paws reached 93% of its funding goal.

This is a dream come true.

Not just because of the book - which I am proud of to the extreme.  It's a dream come true because of all the trust and support that is rallying behind It's Important to Paws.

Here are some behind the scenes statistics that I haven't shared in the past:

-- $23,274
pledged in just four weeks.

-- 225 Pledges from people I know and others I've never met.

-- 93% funded.

-- Five days remain.

The book, It's Important to Paws, will be the best book of its kind.  Thank you for helping to bring this dream to a reality (almost!).

The following is a link to a national blog called SeniorPooch.com.  Jeff Narucki interviewed me about the inspiration for It's Important to Paws.  Thank you, Jeff.  What a treat to be able to share a common language that is based upon the love and respect of animal companions.

To followers of my blog, I hope you'll also subscribe to SeniorPooch.com.  It's packed full of information that's clearly an excellent resource for anyone who is owned by dogs.
